Wow... A Close Call Can Really Trigger Some Thinking

As I sit here in the office biding time during my lunch break, I am not prepared for the news I read a few minutes ago...

My friend, Mike, has just reported on his blog that his Mustang just got wrecked last night. He was carrying live, precious cargo with him at the time (his children) and thankfully no one was hurt in the mishap. Details of the mishap can be found here.

He mentions that it could have been worse. He is right, it could have been worse. How many times do you experience "close calls" and replay the memory of it in your head over and over again? How many times do you look back on your own experiences and wonder "What if it was different"? How many times do you hear the news of a friend's experience - close call or otherwise - and wonder if any previous interactions with that friend could have been different?

We all do this from time to time. I know I did just now as I read that post. We also play tapes in our heads during those experiences. It is important to remain at cause in our lives - to hold ourselves accountable, to learn, and to move forward. Life is too short. I have learned this throughout the course of the "40 Days..." programme. While Mike was in this predicament, he did what he did because of his children. He had milliseconds to react and he did it well. Whatever went through his mind at that exact instant... only he would know.

In a nutshell, I am glad he and his children are ok. Yes, it was a shock to read it at first, but I am relieved all the same...

Just my thought for the afternoon...
