An Overloaded Saturday

Today was a lay back day for me. The temperature was quite cold today (we only reached a high of -10C before the windchill) and I was actually quite tired from yesterday.

Yesterday, I got out for a 16 miler with the Ultimate Warriors group since I was late meeting up with the Mud Puppies. I decided to park at the YMCA in the underground parking about a mile and a half north of the meeting place at the Second Cup and run from there after securing my belongings in the locker room. I got to that street corner just in time to see the troops heading out. They were surprised to see me there and asked where I was parked. I basically explained to them that I did not want my stuff freezing in the car so I decided to leave it at the Y since I would be stretching and showering there anyways. Bernie and Adi were there so I ran with them since the guys were too quick for us.

We ran through the parks along the Don Valley and did an out and back to and from Victoria Park. The sun was out but the windchill was crazy. At least one of the washrooms along the way was open. We stopped there both times and used it. There were some ice patches on the path but for the most part, the path was in good condition to run on. Luckily for me, I carried my water bottle instead of my hydration pack. It was on my back and it was covered so it did not freeze at all. Both Adi and Bernie carried it by hand and it had the rubber valve so freezing was an issue for both of them. Despite all of that, we were all able to finish within three and a half hours and covered just about 27k. This was before adding the extra mile and a half I covered running over to meet them.

As for getting back to the Y, I ended up getting a ride back with one of the other guys there. I probably would have made it back but once I got into the Second Cup and started chatting with the rest of the folks, I cooled down really quickly and my frozen layers thawed out. That would have spelled disaster if I tried to get back out there to run back because of the windchill factor. Upon returning to the Y, I spent a long time warming up and showering before heading out.

As soon as I headed out, I headed over to Kula Yoga Studio to listen to a lecture that was happening for a couple hours. The series is called "This is Your Brain on Yoga". It was an interesting couple of hours spent and before I get into the topic of this particular session, I will have to review my notes. I will say that I got some key points out of this session that will help my yoga practise.

When the lecture was over, I headed over to Whole Foods to get something to eat prior to returning to Kula to do my weekly Energy Exchange duty...
