I'm now down to my final week in taper for the Sulphur Springs 100M run. The plan for me is to now keep loose while incorporating some movement. As a result, I found myself on the Bruce Trail running for 1:45.
My day started off pretty early. I wanted to get to the health food store to pick up some supplements and stuff so that I can have them on hand for Saturday. I remembered to pack the Bruce Trail Reference Guide (Edition 24 - still have to upgrade to 25) and some of my gear in the car before leaving.
After leaving the health food store, I hit the highway and headed for Caledon East where I was to pick the trail up from. As this is a long weekend for us here in Canada (Victoria Day), the cops were out in full force nabbing speeders and careless drivers. I encountered a few cop sitings along the way there and their tactics are absolutely amazing. When I arrived at the spot I was to start off from, I quickly laced up my shoes, grabbed my bottles, and headed on the trail. Because I was meeting up with Lorene for a bit and then heading off to visit family, I promised myself 50 minutes out and 50 minutes back - 1:40.
The trail conditions were quite pleasant, even after Saturday's rain. As I was headed north towards Glen Haffy Conservation area, I had memories of when I was running on the exact same trail in 2003 when I was training for my first 50K run. The trail was still the same but this was one section where there was a major revision in the map. The trail I was on used to be a blue side trail. Now, it has become a main trail with the previous main section becoming a side trail. I was a little short on the distance goal but I was still smiling when I got back to my car. The feeling of getting out there and casually jogging in the fresh air was fantastic.
After making a stop at the gym to freshen up, I met up with Lorene and some of her friends and we took in a blues band that was playing at a cocktail lounge. The music was fantastic and we all had a good time. The night ended with a visit to my cousin where most of us were there partaking in dinner and liming into the night.
