Yesterday after getting home I was getting ready to head to the gym and almost rushing when Lorene told me that one of our planned activities was off due to equipment failure. I will not reveal what that was because I still have visions of screaming clear across the city if I get a result that would invoke the scream... hehe :)
It was a bit of a struggle to get ready and head to the gym but I did it anyway. As soon as I was changed, I wandered upstairs to the conditioning room and was able to immediately secure a treadmill. For 50 minutes, including the cooldown, I ran at an even tempo - mainly running 6.2 miles per hour unless I slowed down to walk, or felt like speeding up for a bit. Total distance overall was 4.77 miles.
After the treadmill, Lorene demonstrated the proper use of the foam roller. The release on all my known tight spots felt so good, I will definitely be investing in a roller for myself. It would make a good companion for my Stick.
This evening, I had a committee meeting. This meant I had to carry my gym clothes with me to the office so that I could get a workout in before the meeting...
I basically did a lot of upper body work. The workout began with a 2000m row on the Concept II. Total time was 10:45. Rowing on the Concept II has really given me the desire to get back out there and row this summer. With an office move in the works, this may be possible later on in the summer as the new location will be closer to the rowing club. We shall see... After the rowing, I did some bench pressing using the dumbells. I am proud to say that I can now press with 30lb dumbells in each hand. This was followed with some core work including deadlifts and cleans. I almost did not want to leave the gym, especially when I was getting into the groove but it was all good.
It is really amazing how movement can provoke thought. I have been practically solving personal dilemas with each movement, each lift, and each stride taken... Moving meditation... the way to go...
