We're Luvin' on the Hills

Happy Valentine's Day to all... However you may be enjoying it!

My Valentine's morning was spent on the hills in Toronto with the other Ultimate Warriors. Today, we had 12 hill segments scheduled. The sun was shining, and the temperature was between -5 and -7 Celsius with some windchill. Some of us started at 8h00 while others elected to start earlier.

It was a little tougher for me this time around. The week leading up to today was quite hectic. There was so much going on in my work life that affected me both physically and emotionally. As this is a long weekend now, I am going to be using this time to evaluate and plan for a balanced and effective week.

My starting was quite sluggish and I remained behind the group for the entire run. Once I was loose, I was good but the hills were a little tougher than the last time and the illiotibial band (ITB) was talking to me. Oh well... My mission was to go the entire distance, even if it meant walking.

I am proud to say that I did complete all 12 hills within 2:40. It may have been tough but I take solace in knowing that I have come a long way in the last few years. What helped me on the last third was Jeff Cooper's words as I told him I was having a tough time. He reminded me that we all have times when we are feeling low but all we have to do is to face it and move forward. Two weeks ago, Jeff had knee surgery for his MCL. Today was his first day running and he completed eight hill segments. He went slow and he was quite strong out there. Bravo!

The run concluded with a group breakfast at the Richtree Market Restaurant in the plaza where we meet for all our runs on the weekends, before we all went our separate ways into the world. On my way, I stopped at the gym for a stretch and shower. I had an amazing thing happen. When I was at the gym, I found one of the yoga mats and decided to use it. Before I knew what was happening, I found myself going through a power vinyasa sequence. I nailed the sun salutations and was a little out of sequence for the rest but it did not matter. It showed me that I can practise yoga on my own. It also strengthened my resolve to take a teacher training course.
