This weekend was a little more low-key than previous weekends. I think it was my body's way of telling me that I needed to recover...
On Saturday, I met up with the Mud Puppies for a run in the city. I was actually running a few minutes late because I was delayed for a brief period before leaving the house. My goal was to go out for at least two hours, or 20K. I started following an old route that would eventually take me to the Belt Line. About 45 minutes into the run, I ended up meeting some of the gang on their way back. Helen, who recently had foot surgery, was among them. She is now starting to come back so they abbreviated the run. I could have kept going but I decided to go along with them in the interest of time as we had a race meeting planned afterward. Because of the pace they were going at, I ended up being out there for the planned two hours but I know the distance was a lot shorter.
Upon returning the Helen's place, we all cleaned up, filled our stomachs with great food, and then discussed the upcoming Seaton Trail 26/52/78K Race which is set to take place on April 18th. Getting additional volunteers for the race day is going to be a challenge because a few of them will be running Boston Marathon. Also, three of us will be running the 78K. That's right, I will be running it. It will get me the 40 miles needed for the 10...More...Miles... Challenge. Prerace help will be plentiful as I will be one of the ones marking the course, and cleaning up in the end.
The rest of my day was spent taking it easy before completing my weekly Energy Exchange duty at Kula Yoga. I did end up stopping in at Ambrosia Foods to stock up on various packets of protein supplements. I will get into this in more detail soon but the purpose of me stocking up is so that I can start sampling what works best for me in terms of recovery and sustenance during long efforts so that I will not be in for any surprises during the upcoming races.
