It has been two busy weeks thus far. With the Holiday Season now over for another year, it was time to refocus myself and get back into the swing of things with work and with life.
The first week back was really busy for me. There was so much to take care of and I did not workout as I could have.
January 2nd found me in Cleveland, OH participating in the Art Moore FA run. This is the second time I have participated in this event and like last year, I had a really good time. It was Fred's birthday that day and he wanted to run 62K - 62 being his age. The original plan was to run 62M but the plan changed due to weather and time. It was really cold that day with temperatures hovering around 17F for much of the day. I attempted to go along with him for the entire distance and was going really strong until about 50K when I started getting really cold. I then made the decision to stop while Fred went on to complete the entire distance. I took on the challenge of running in the extreme cold as a dry run for the upcoming Winter 100M/24H event in Lockport, NY. My findings here will help me to determine how to adjust my gear for that event. The day concluded at Colleen's place where we had dinner, snacks, and sang Happy Birthday to Fred and another birthday girl who was present. A great time was had by all...
I left Cleveland the next morning, but not before doing a 75 minute Baptiste Power Vinyasa practise at Cleveland Yoga. The flow really opened me up and really helped for the extended drive home due to a snowstorm along the I90 - my main route back to the border.
After doing another 75 minute practise at Power Yoga Canada the following day, I was pretty much taking in some downtime due to the flurry of activity at work and in life. I resumed my workouts the following weekend with a gentle run on Sunday evening. I felt really good and decided to ramp up my workouts for the week. My training log provides more details on this. The only thing that is affecting me now is stiffness in the upper back, along the trapezius muscles. While I am able to work through the aches, I know I have to be mindful of how I treat my body as I try to work through the stiffness.
Tomorrow, I am looking forward to doing some hill training with the Ultimate Warriors. I could have been doing a trail run in St. Catharines at the same time but I figure that the hill training will be more to my liking, especially since I have so much to do afterwards.
