The Week Thus Far...

Ok, I know today is Wednesday. We have just passed the halfway point and the week will be done before we all know it.

I am still compiling all the photographs taken during the road trip I took last week in hopes of compiling a report about the trip. It is hard to believe that last week at this time I was enjoying a late dinner in a rustic cabin - planning for the next couple days of adventures. I really had a great time and cannot wait to plan another one like it...

Now, I figure that I may as touch base and let you know what I have been up to this week so far. It has been a busy week at best and my body is still trying to get back on track but I have still been making an effort to keep moving as much as I physically can.

Sunday - Ashtanga Primary

This was the first time I have participated in this class since mid-summer. I was quite happy to be back at it, especially since my wrist healed up quite nicely. Grant taught an awesome class and for two hours, we all flowed with our bodies and our breathe. Now, I will admit that there were times when my focus was off. It was quite something to build upon that awareness and consciously try to correct this. Once I brought my focus back in line, I had an awesome class. After the class concluded, there was a 45 minute meditation session. One thing I need to learn to do is to let go of any outside thoughts that come to my mind. I found that my mind did drift at times to the upcoming tasks that had to be done on the way home after this was all done. I worked hard to rein myself in and let the thoughts go without trying so hard.

Tuesday - Crossfit at the Y
I was a little late getting to the gym last night. Upon my arrival, I immediately grabbed my gear and headed upstairs. After greeting Lorene, I immediately hopped on the elliptical for a 20 minute warm up with a total distance of 1.90 miles (according to the machine). I then tackled a Crossfit workout that I decided to revisit.
3 Sets (21/15/9 reps) of the following:
Front squats (landing on a stability when squatting low)
Burpees

Box jumps
Well... My wrist was talking to me when I was trying to use the barbell. I can still feel the tightness around the thumb and I was forced to squat with no weight on the bar. I will have my work cut out for me where it comes to loosening up the area. Regardless, the workout felt right and I was able to loosen up in the steam room afterwards.

Tonight - Spin and Flow
I was feeling quite cagey at the office today. I was in such a hyper mood (I later realised that my sugar consumption was quite high for the past couple of days) that I just wanted to assault an inanimate object to let out some of the aggression. I had initially decided to go to the gym and run outside for an hour or so. Things did not quite work out according to plan. To make up for it, I decided to venture into the basement and spin my heart out to some music. When I got downstairs, I ran back up to grab my yoga mat and bring it down with me. After spinning for about 42 minutes, I unfolded the mat and started flowing. My practise was based on Ashtanga and Baptiste Power Vinyasa. I was feeling quite powerful in the end knowing that I now have what it takes to practise yoga anywhere and any time.

The next couple of days are going to be hectic. I have come to realise over the last few days that I will need to work on focus. I am now beginning to see what happens when focus is lost. With this new awareness, I will be working on focus and deeper awareness...

Keep smiling! The weekend is almost here :-)

  1. That must be very powerful to realize that all you need for your yoga, is you! Now you can be my teacher too! :)
