Thank You Marinella!

I have not been practising yoga for the last couple of weeks since I sprained my wrist. It has been hard for me to listen to everyone talk about the wonderful time they have been having at Kinndli's new studio - Power Yoga Canada - which opened last week. I have not been able to practise anything where vinyasas were concerned because of the strain I would be putting on an injury that is on the mend.

I was at Kula tonight because I thought I would be relieving Cas who covered for my shift in the Energy Exchange the other week when I couldn't use my hand. It turned out that there was a mix up and I didn't have to do anything for tonight.

Marinella was teaching tonight. Adam, another teacher at the studio, had shown me a wrist strengthening exercise to start with for a week. If there is no improvement in a week, or there is further tightening, I will have to see my sports therapist for Active Release Techniques (ART) in that region.

Marinella was my saviour tonight. She showed me how Downward Dog can be used to strengthen the wrist. She showed me how to use the blocks to work on gripping while using the arm to pull away the pressure from the wrist. This would strengthen the forearm at the same time. I did as she said with the blocks, working on really anchoring the fingers down. Once she had me put my hands on the mat, I immediately noticed a difference. I was totally amazed. She also showed me how to massage the fascia in the wrist to break up any scar tissue that is forming in the area. Marinella told me that she healed her own wrist injury within three weeks by following this method before. She also told me that it would also help with the cyst that is currently in my other wrist so that it wouldn't flare up.

For the renewed confidence, I thank you Marinella! I will be looking forward to taking more of your classes (Anusara Inspired), and returning to my Ashtanga and Baptiste Power Yoga practises very soon.

Namaste...

  1. I might give that wrist stuff a try. I find downward dog to be one of the most difficult positions to maintain good form.

I hope it works out for you.
