Well, three weeks have gone by since I have embarked on this adventure. Not one day goes by when I do not look at the belt buckle - the actual object and the photograph that is proudly displayed as my wallpaper at work - and marvel at how far I have come within the last five years of my life. I have moved forward progressively and worked towards goals and achievements each step of the way.
My recovery has been touch and go. The first week, I was ironing out all the aches and pains and trying to bring my body back in balance. I was feeling tired quite a bit, and had to make a lot of effort to avoid those who showed up in the office with really bad colds. Commuting was also a challenge because of the fact that I take public transit to work on a daily basis. Not only did I have to deal with people who were sick, I also had to take care with stairs at the transit terminals. The only mistake I made during the first week was going a little too aggressive at the gym attempting a Crossfit routine. In fact, I am suspecting that is the reason I have managed to aggravate the ITB.
The second week, my ITB was feeling really tight and inflamed. It was so tight and inflamed that it actually caused my leg to lock up at the knee. I did run the Kingston 6H run and was aggressive with stretching but the pain remained. I am currently investing in Active Release Technique (ART) treatments from my sports therapist. It is painful but I have found success with this in the past. I am starting to feel really normal but I know that I will have to ease back into the running. Walking feels great but the impact from running tends to aggravate the ITB at the knee. This changes my running plans for the next week. I hope to be back to racing by the end of the month. For now, I have been focusing on crosstraining, including light weights, cycling, and swimming.
Other than the minor injury, I have been quite occupied. In fact, I am focusing on catching up on my state of affairs at this moment. This weekend, I will be focusing on a normal life. Unfortunately, this means running errands and catching up on household affairs. I will get some physical activity in as well.
This weekend will give me the opportunity to evaluate where I am at relative to where I want to be. I intend to tap into that opportunity...
